The Principal town and resort on the lovely
Inishowen Peninsula, Buncranna boasts a 5km sandy beach. Buncranna's
Irish name means 'Foot of the River' and one of its delights is
the walk under beech, maple and lime trees beside the waters of
the River Crana. By the six arched bridge is the square keep of
the 15th century Buncrana Castle, where Wolfe Tone (1763-1798)
was brought after his capture in 1798.
The Crana River is an excellent salmon river and it adorns Swan
Park, a haven of peace for the stroller. Other attractions include
Tullyarvin Mill, The National Knitting Centre and Inishowen Genealogical
Centre. The Golf enthusiast can enjoy the fairways of the 18 hole
North West Golf Club and the 9 hole Buncrana Golf Club. Horse
riding is also available situated at a short distance outside
the town.
Club Sands, Located at the Inishowen Gateway Hotel, offers a huge
line-up of International DJ's and guarantees the best in cutting
edge dance music. Open three nights at weekends.
