Culdaff which in Irish is spelled "Cuil
Dabhcha", which means "Back of the Sand hills".
Beautifully situated on the Inishowen Peninsula, Culdaff Beach
is popular with families and water sports enthusiasts. Bunagee
Pier is a centre for sea angling and is used by divers, wind surfers
and fishermen alike. The Culdaff area is rich in historical sites
from the monastic churches of Cloncha and Carrowmore to the enigmatic
stone circle at Bocan and the Megalithic Tombs at Deen and Care.
This charming resort is the birth place of Charles Macklin, the
celebrated 18th Century actor, who was born in 1690. He is the
subject of the annual Charles Macklin Autumn School held in October
in the village.
