Doagh
visitors center is open to visitors form easter to october,
from 10am - 5:30pm.
It is suitable for all ages and for people from all
walks of life. Small farm animals are present to amuse
the children and there is also a play area. All exhibits
are compact and the center is wheelchair friendly, and
is specially designed for the Irish weather conditions.
The center first opened in 1997 on a small scale, and
since then many displays have been added. it is privately
funded and depends solely on the gate returns. We would
be very gratefull if you would bring any problems or
queries to our attention, or if you encounter any while
at the center we would be grateful if you would let
the staff know there and then, we highly regard our
customers and if there is any way that we can help you
please let us know.
We advise that you take advantage of our tour guides,
who will explain in great detail, the displays and will
answer any questions you have.
The tour begins in the 1900's where we learn about old
cures, old wives tales and the standard of living in
the 1900's. We view a Wake which is how the people in
Ireland mourn the death of a loved one.
We leave the 1900's through a time tunnel. Whilst traveling
through we see the hardships endured by people during
the Famine. On emerging from the tunnel we arrive in
the 1800's. Here we see the impact the Famine had on
life. we view how anyone who practiced any type of religion
endured hardship, and we learn that it was almost impossible
to get educated.
After being on this tour, one can perhaps understand
the great need for understanding, acceptance, education
and unity among all people Isle
