North West Golf
Club will never host the Irish Open, or the Irish
Amateur Championship for that matter. At just a little
over 6,200 yards it isn't considered long enough to
stage a tournament of note. Don't be foiled into thinking
its an easy course though - it isn't. Sure there are
short holes at Northwest. Sure it only plays a par
of 70. don't let looks deceive you, however. Northwest
is a links course that can make you feel you play
to a higher handicap than the one you showed up with.
you will realize that as you stand on the first tee
looking at a tough par 4 that measures 440-yards.
Making four at the first is no easy task, even for
good players.
At Northwest you will find par-4s ranging from 343-yards
(the 4th), to 443-yards(the 12th), a definite drive
and long iron hole for most players. You will find
only two par-5s on the layout and four par-3s. Shortest
of the par-3s is the 16th, which streaches to only
93-yards. However, it is surrounded by sand so hitting
the green is imperative.
